Celebrities Sign On To Help Fight Breast Cancer
Lauren David Peden
October 12th, 2006 @ 4:40 PM - New York
Female celebrities from Beyoncé to Jennifer Aniston to Demi Moore to Kelly Ripa to Regina King have lent their support to the month-long Design a Cure event by signing limited edition t-shirts that will sold throughout the month of October to benefit Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Research Institute in Los Angeles.
The brainchild of Jackie Brander and Christy Warren, co-owners of the Santa Monica boutique Fred Segal Fun, Design A Cure paired two dozen sportswear designers - including C&C, TART, Materialust, True Religion, Hurley and 2 B Free - with two dozen celebrities, each of whom signed a t-shirt designed in their honor, that are now available through an online auction at www.presentsforpurpose.com. Each company donated an additional 100 unsigned shirts of the same design, which range from $48 to $80, and are available exclusively at Fred Segal Fun. One hundred percent of the proceeds from all the shirts, signed and unsigned, go directly to the Cedars-Sinai research and treatment facility.
The shirts range from simple scoop necks signed by Kerry Washington and Elisha Cuthbert (from Paige Premium Knits and Saint Grace, respectively) to more decorative offerings, such as the torso-sized lipstick pucker that's emblazoned across the Christina Aguilera/Sharon Segal tank, and the Rock The Cure graphic splashed on the Sheryl Crow/Rock and Republic tee.
To date, the Design A Cure t-shirt initiative has raised more than $400,000.
