Diane von Furstenberg Unanimously Elected to Second CFDA Term
Renata Espinosa
July 31st, 2008 @ 1:25 PM - New York
Diane von Furstenberg is a busy woman these days, between designing her collections and her role as the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). But she’s managing to balance everything just fine, as evidenced by her unanimous re-election to a second two-year term as president of the CFDA Wednesday, July 30, as well as her induction that same day into the Fashion Walk of Fame by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District on New York’s Seventh Avenue.
"Diane's unanimous election to a second two-year term as CFDA President is a great testament to the leadership she has demonstrated during her first term,” said Steven Kolb, executive director of the CFDA. “In the past two years, the CFDA’s membership has increased and the overall visibility of the American fashion industry has risen.”
During von Furstenberg’s term as president of the CFDA, she has been involved in a number of new and ongoing programs, from partnering with GQ to launch the best menswear designers in America project, to supporting the introduction of a bill last fall in Congress to protect designers from design piracy, and most recently, working with members of the fashion industry to make New York fashion week more manageable for all people involved, from designers to press to buyers, by introducing scheduling guidelines designed to better organize show times and locations.
In addition to von Furstenberg’s re-election at yesterday’s meeting, the CFDA also added 28 new designers to the roster of members. They include Ron Anderson and David Rees of TenThousandThings, Michael Bastian, Andrew Buckler of Buckler, Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava, Rachel Comey, Philip Crangi, Erica Davies of Development, Holly Dunlap of Hollywould, Cheryl Finnegan of Virgins, Saints and Angels, Dana Foley and Anna Corinna Sellinger of Foley + Corinna, Jenni Kayne, Naeem Khan, Eunice Lee of Unis, Fiona Kotur Marin of Kotur, Malia Mills of Malia Mills Swimwear, Sandra Muller of Lila Gems, Thakoon Panichgul of Thakoon, Robin Renzi of Me&Ro, Brian Reyes, Loree Rodkin, Kara Ross of Kara Ross New York, Amy Smilovic of Tibi, Sue Stemp, Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders and Araks Yeramyan of Araks.
A reception to honor the new members will be held on October 21.
