Diane von Furstenberg’s Aristo Gypsies
Godfrey Deeny
September 09th, 2012 @ 8:42 PM - New York
Diane von Furstenberg manages to play all the angles, especially in her latest collection, which mingled the opulence of aristocracy with the self-indulgence of the bohemia. All of it filmed live on new Glass by Google technology – glasses with tiny cameras capturing show images destined to go viral on the web.
Von Furstenberg and her designer director Yvan Mispelaere wore the glasses, as did Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who took a joint tour of the catwalk at the show’s finale.
Presented to a packed house Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, in Lincoln Center before an audience that included two of her most esteemed colleagues – Oscar de la Renta and Valentino Garavani – the collection was psychedelic fantasy. As was the music, with Pink Floyd cuts adding drama to the moment.
Firework crepe jackets, hyper large paisley detailing and racy palazzo pants in mixes of blood orange, lagoon blue or bright kiwi has great élan and punch.
Though the coolest look was a combo of absurdly short mini topped by a saucy silk blouse with aviator glasses in matching lime.
“It’s not just because she is an old friend, which she is, that I say she is a brilliant example of exotic glamour,” Valentino told FWD just before the show began.
Cut with a glamorous silhouette and accessorized with some great bejeweled evening clutches, this show also reeked glamour too.
